MSG was formed in 1993 with the goal of making available the latest developments in numerical algorithms for research and policy analysis. The application of these techniques to developing global economic models has put McKibbin Software Group at the frontier of research in global modelling and formed a base for a global network of researchers.

About the Director of Research

The Director of Reseach for MSG is Professor Warwick McKibbin.

Professor Warwick J. McKibbin is Distinguished Professor in Economics and Public Policy in the Crawford School of Public Policy in the Australian National University College of Asia and the Pacific.

He is also a Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics, and a Research Fellow in the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), London.

Professor McKibbin was awarded the Order of Australia in 2016 “For Distinguished Service to Education as an Economist, particularly in the Area of Global Climate Policy, and to Financial Institutions and International Organizations” and the Centenary Medal in 2003 “For Service to Australian Society through Economic Policy and Tertiary Education”.

Professor McKibbin was foundation Director of the Centre for Applied Macroeconomic Analysis and the ANU Research School of Economics

Professor McKibbin was a member of the Board of the Reserve Bank of Australia (the Australian equivalent of the Board of Governors of the US Federal Reserve) from 2001-2011. He was a Professorial Fellow at the Lowy Institute for International Policy (2003-2012) in Sydney where is was involved in the design and development of the Lowy Institute for a decade from its inception.

He served as a member of the Australian Prime Ministers Science, Engineering and innovation Council and on the Australian Prime Minister's Taskforce on Uranium Mining Processing and Nuclear Energy in Australia.

Professor McKibbin is internationally renowned for his contributions to global economic modeling. He has published more that 200 academic papers as well as being a regular commentator in the popular press. He has authored / edited four books including the book "Global Linkages: Macroeconomic Interdependence and Cooperation in the World Economy" written with Professor Jeffrey Sachs of Columbia University and "Climate Change Policy after Kyoto: A Blueprint for a Realistic Approach" with Professor Peter Wilcoxen of Syracuse University.

ProfessorMcKibbin received his B.Com (Honours 1) and University Medal from University of NSW (1980) and his AM (1984) and a PhD (1986) from Harvard University. He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Social Sciences

He has been a consultant for many international agencies and a range of governments on issues of macroeconomic policy, international trade and finance, greenhouse policy issues, global demographic change and the economic cost of pandemics.
